Born in NYC in 1963, Marc Jacobs graduated from Parsons School of Design, where he was the youngest designer ever to receive the CFDA's Perry Ellis Award for new fashion talent.
In 1992, Jacobs showed his infamous grunge collection for Perry Ellis, in his words, “a little preppy, a little grungy, a little couture”. A collection that sharply divided critics and gave him no love from his bosses that fired him a year later. However, it won him the hearts of hip chicks the world over, including Sofia Coppola, Winona Ryder, and Kate Moss. Since then Marc Jacobs has been regarded as by far the most exciting and talented American designer of his generation.
Jacobs was artistic director at Louis Vuitton for 16 years from 1997 to 2013 and helped to transform Vuitton from a staid luggage label into one of the most valuable fashion brands in the world.
In April 1994, Marc Jacobs successfully debuted his eponymous collection. Since then, he’s created countless successful ready-to-wear, handbag, fragrance, cosmetics & book launches.
While remaining faithful to all that has made it unique since 1984, Marc Jacobs constantly reinvents the codes of style.
